Myomectomy

Surgical Removal of Fibroids

Fibroid

Harmless Tumor of the Uterus which occurs in almost 25% of Women during their Reproductive Age Group (from 20 to 50 years old).

Prolapse

When an Organ falls out of place from its normal position due to weakness of laxity in the surrounding support structures.

Endometriosis

Presence of the lining of the uterus in nearby organs causing severe pain and bleeding.

Morcellation

The segmentation of supporting tissue so that it can be removed.

Ovarian Cysts

Small Fluid-filled Sacs that develop in a woman’s ovaries. Most cysts are harmless, but some may cause problems due to rupturing, bleeding, or torsion.

Ectopic Pregnancy

A Pregnancy that develops outside the Womb, usually in the Fallopian Tubes. This is also known as a Tubal Pregnancy. As the pregnancy grows, it causes pain and bleeding and, if not recognized, the tube can rupture, causing internal bleeding. This is a medical emergency and can be fatal.

Laparoscopic Sterilization

Also known as Tubal ligation, or “tying the tubes” is a surgery to close a Woman’s Fallopian Tubes permanently so that she can no longer get pregnant.

The branch of medicine that deals with the care of a Woman’s Reproductive system during Pregnancy and Birthing.

Fundoplication

A Surgery to prevent gastro-esophageal reflux which is when digested food is brought back up the esophegus.

Colectomy

The removal of one’s large intestine due to cancer or other diseases.

Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy

A surgery where a portion of the sympathetic nerve trunk (a nerve bundle found in the chest) is destroyed in order to reduce excessive sweating of the palms and soles or other ailments.

Nephrolithotomy

A kidney incision made in order to remove kidney stones.

Percutaneous

An operation performed through the skin, such as a biopsy or the aspiration of fluid from a space below the skin with a needle, catheter, and syringe or instillation of a fluid in a cavity or space.

Insufflation

The blowing of a medicinal powder, vapor, or gas into a body cavity through the respiratory passage.

Electrocautery

The use of a needle or snare heated by electric current for the destruction of tissue, such as for removing warts or polyps and cauterizing small blood vessels to limit blood loss during surgery.

Ligation

The procedure of tying off a blood vessel or duct with a suture or wire ligature.

Ligature

Any material, such as thread or wire, used for tying a vessel or to constrict a part.
