 Removal of Kidney stones
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a minimally invasive procedure for removal of kidney stones. Kidney stones are also called renal calculi. They can form anywhere in the urinary system, however usually develop in the kidney. Kidney stones range in size from microscopic groups of crystals to objects as large as golf balls. Most calculi, however, pass through the urinary tract without causing problems. PCNL is most suitable to remove stones more than 2 cm in size.

Procedure:
A needle is inserted through the skin into the renal collecting system (under image guidance)and then the tract is dilated to approximately 1 cm. Surgical instruments (nephroscope) are then inserted through this tract to break up and remove stones. Large stones are first crushed using ultrasound and then the fragments are safely removed. In contrast to laparoscopy, no insufflation is used; the percutaneous tract provides direct access to the kidney for stone removal. Post procedure care:

Get yourself checked if you have the following symptoms
  • If you have difficulty in urination or cannot urinate.
  • Progressive breathing problems or chest pain.
  • Your nephrostomy tube is leaking or has not drained urine for two hours.

 Removal of Prostate Gland
The prostate gland is a fibrous organ that surrounds the urinary urethra in men. An enlarged prostate gland can compress the urethra, thus causing problems with urination. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a simple surgical procedure to remove, whole or part of the prostate gland. TURP is the preferred treatment mode for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Men over the age of 40 have a greater risk of developing prostate disease.80% men eventually develop BPH.

BPH symptoms include:
  • Increase in urination frequency, and the need to urinate during the night
  • Difficulty starting urine flow
  • A slow, interrupted flow and dribbling after urinating
  • Sudden, strong urges to pass urine
  • A sensation that the bladder is not completely empty
  • Pain or burning during urination
If you suffer from any of these symptoms get yourself checked. TURP reduces symptoms in 88% of BPH patients.

Procedure:
The TURP procedure for this is simple. You will be administered a general or regional (spinal) anaesthesia. The surgeon will examine you with the help of a cytoscope inserted through your urethra. A special tool (electrocautery or LASER) is then used to remove your prostate gland part by part.

Preparation for TURP:
  • Select an experienced TURP surgeon to perform the procedure.
  • A complete physical examination will be conducted.
  • Consult your doctor regarding the drugs, supplements and vitamins you are taking.

 Laparoscopic Nephrectomy
The kidneys are paired organs that lie posterior to the abdomen, in the area of the lower back. They serve the body as a natural filter of the blood, and remove wastes which are diverted to the urinary bladder. Nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a kidney. This can be done thru `open surgery` or thru laparoscopic surgery.

Indications for nephrectomy:
  • Tumors of kidney
  • Non-functioning kidney
  • Long standing infections in kidney (Chronic pyelonephritis)
  • Reno vascular hypertension
  • Nephrosclerosis
  • Symptomatic patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease
  • Re?ux or obstructive nephropathy
  • Multicystic dysplastic kidney
Procedure:
The Laparoscopic Nephrectomy surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. A laparoscope (thin tube with an attached camera and light source) is inserted through incisions (single or multiple) in the body. Surgical Instruments are passed through the laparoscope and the kidney is removed.
